Sonia Medina Ph.D. specializes in Clinical Psychology. Dr. completed her Ph.D. in 2012 from Carlos Albizu University, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. Medina is fluent in English and Spanish. Dr. Medina began her career in 2004 by completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. Her experience working in the health system as a nurse, especially in the psychiatric health area, were her inspiration and motivation to continue studies in the mental health field. Dr. Medina has a strong belief in holistic and multidisciplinary health care.
Her clinical experience has taken place in private practice and the public health system, providing many out-patient services for a diverse population including adults with challenging behaviors, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, Dr. Medina has experience working at inpatient units, and providing direct care to patients in crisis. She has headed up a Crisis Stabilization Unit in the state of Florida prison system.
Overall, Dr. Medina’s clinical work has been dedicated to offering clients psychotherapy, and psychological evaluations to children, adolescents and adults. Her services focus on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the following areas: Neurodevelopmental Disorders such as Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ADHD, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar and related Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Trauma, Gender Dysphoria, Disruptive, Impulsive-Control, Conduct Disorders, Substance abuse and Addictive Disorders.
