Post Traumatic Stress Disorders
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that is triggered by a terrifying traumatic event. An individual may have experienced this event and or witnessed the event happening. Clinical symptoms include nightmares, night terrors, flashbacks, racing thoughts and severe anxiety and or depression.
Individuals experience severe emotional distress and or physical reactions when a situation or event triggers thoughts about the past trauma. Irritability, self-destructive behavior, overwhelming guilt or shame and lack of sleep are also some common symptoms of PTSD.
PTSD can be treated by a combination of psychotherapy and medication management.
